As part of the FA and Tesco's Girls Football Week - an initiative to embrace more girls into the biggest female participation sport in the country - St Agnes AFC invited 80 girls from local primary schools to take part in a football fun day at Enys Parc on Thursday 25th June 2009.
Following on from the success of a similar event last season 8 teams of girls aged 8-11 years attended from different primary schools including St Agnes School, Perranporth School, Goonhavern, Threemilestone, St Johns and St Kea.
The Girls spent the day learning skills, playing matches and doing fitness.
Qualified coaches from St Agnes AFC were ably assisted in the deliverance of the day by sports students Chantelle Goldsworthy, Amber Johnstone, Grace Rudlin and Emily Hardacre from Truro College who spent the day helping as part of their Community Sports Leader Award.
Fresh fruit, juice, squash, biscuits and other refreshments for the girls all day was supplied in boundless quantities thanks to sponsorship by local Tecos's Stores.
Referees for the day included Richard Lander School Pupil Ben Pitts a St Agnes AFC club player who has just qualified as a young referee. Ben was allowed the day out of school to be mentored in his first experience of refereeing and did a cracking job!
Medals, trophies and certificates for the day were sponsored by St Agnes business Martyn Kimmins Print with Club President Ian Doble presenting the top overall team of the day Goonhavern School with medals and runners up awards to St Agnes who came a close second. |
